NEWS
Beginning in the school year 2010-2011, there will be three new vaccine requirements. This will apply fo students who will be entering 6th through 12th grades. The vaccines are Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, Pertussis) and Menactra (Meningitis), and a second Varicella (chicken pox) for students who have not had chicken pox as a disease. They are already required by colleges in general.
Hend. Co. Health Dept. Policy Change
The Indiana Department of Health has directed that the Hendricks County Health Dept. can no longer vaccinate children who have insurance that covers any part of childhood vaccines. As of July 1, 2011, they will only be seeing uninsured children for vaccination. Their appointments are already full up to that time.
Documentation of every student's chicken pox status is now required by the state. If your child has had chicken pox (the disease), a parent report of the date is sufficient. If they have had the vaccine, documentation is required. If neither of these apply, the vaccine is available from the Hendricks Co. Health Dept. for uninsured students for $.50 by calling
745-9222 for an appointment. They are also available from your health care provider. Two vaccinations are required for students who have never had the chicken pox disease.
Health Care Providers do not inform the school nurse when vaccines are given. Please remember to provide documentation of all new vaccines so that I can update your child's record. Colleges require these vaccines for admittance as well. Complete HS records are the easiest way to meet this requirement.
Please keep your family phone numbers, addresses, etc. updated. Changes can be made by contacting the Guidance Office @ 838-3622.
